What is the Live Arrival Guarantee?

At Dan's Fish, we're so confident our fish will arrive alive and healthy that we'll refund the cost of any lost fish and the applicable portion of the order shipping cost. If there's a problem, just follow the instructions for activating our guarantee.

Can I add items to a previously placed order?

To add more to your order, go to checkout with the fish in your cart and choose the option to combine them with an order that hasn't shipped yet. The system will put them in the same box together and adjust the shipping cost as needed. The shipping date you choose will be the date your combined orders will be shipped together.

Please Note: If your original order's shipping date is filled to capacity you will need to select a different shipping date for your combined orders. Also, it takes a few days to properly prepare the fish for shipping, so the deadline to add more fish to your order is 5pm Mountain Standard Time two days before their shipping date.

Can I choose when my order will be shipped?

At checkout you will be able to choose from available shipping days, and if needed you can update your order's shipping date from your orders page.

The shipping date is when it will be shipped, you should expect to receive it the next day. Currently we ship Mondays and Wednesdays, so orders should be delivered Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Orders cannot be rescheduled indefinitely, so if a couple weeks have gone by or the order is already being processed (processing begins 2 days before the shipping date), the system will not allow further tinkering with the shipping date. Please contact us if this ends up causing an issue.

Can I choose how UPS delivers my order?

To manage your delivery use the UPS App or UPS My Choice. You can have your order held at a UPS location for pickup, have it delivered to a neighbor, and more.

How does shipping work?

Shipping is flat rate based on the shipping method, we use UPS Next Day Air, and four box sizes: small, medium, large, and giant. Partially filled boxes cost the same as full boxes. To maximize your shipping dollars, our checkout will show how much room is left in each box so you can fill up the box of your choice. You may also add items in checkout to previous orders that qualify.

Heat and cold packs will be added as needed at no extra charge.

Where does Dan's Fish ship orders?

United States: We ship to locations in the United States including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. The final shipping cost will be shown in checkout.

Hawaii requires we send a copy of your import permit along with the box, please reply to the purchase confirmation email with a copy of your import permit.

If you are unsure about how to get an import permit, this webpage can help dab.hawaii.gov/pi/pq/import-program/plant-quarantine-application-for-permits or you can contact them at 808 973-9560.

Depending on how quickly you are able to get the permit we may need to move your order back a week or two, just let us know what you need.

Canada: UPDATE - We're pausing service to Canada for the forseeable future as we have been unable to resolve delay issues with customs.
Please create an account and add a shipping address. Our system will verify that we can ship to your area. By default shipments will be sent Mondays.
All prices at DansFish.com are shown as USD. To see final shipping costs for your location please fill your cart and then open checkout. Shipping charges should include customs import duties/taxes. If there is cause for a refund it will be processed at the exchang rate at the time of the refund and you may get more or less than expected. Please contact us with questions or suggestions.

How long does it take for my order to ship?

Most fish are pulled the day before being shipped and fasted so they can void their bowels before their trip. This means we need at least 2 days (though we usually take 3-5 business days) to ship each order. The upside, our fish arrive without ammonia burn or other damage from toxic materials in the water.

How do I see the most recently added items?

There are two ways to know what items have been added to inventory.

  1. To see the most recently added items just visit our products page here: dansfish.com/product/recent. This page also has other sorting options, including by price.
  2. To be notified via email when items are back in stock just add them to your wish list. Out of stock items are listed at the bottom of each category, or on the wish list page: dansfish.com/wishlist.
