  • Comment: Super pleased! My Cardinal Tetras arrived healthy and happy and the Kuhli Loach joined its friends and found some plants to hide in. For a first time online fish order I’m very stoked and will be ordering from Dan’s again! Update 1/2/24: Everyone is still happy and healthy! The loach and buddies have found their happy hiding spots. The tetras are all doing great and schooling like champs! Don’t hesitate ordering from Dan!

  • Comment: The fish all came individually packed in their own bags. The heat packs were still warm and none of the fish bags felt cold. All the fish (guppies, platies and loaches) looked healthy and settled into my quarantine tanks nicely. No DOA's at all. I'll have to see how they do going forward, but so far, I couldn't be happier with my experience. Update - almost a month from when I received this order. All fish are still alive, have shown no signs of sickness and are thriving.

  • Comment: I had an outcome today that illustrates why you buy from Dan's fish. Bought pygmy swordtails from him two weeks ago. During the livestream on Weds, my female was developing a swim bladder infection. Normally, a new fish like this is headed for "burial at sea". We're also out of the window where it might be Dan's fault, this one's on me. But it's also where the "fat and sassy" difference kicks in. See, I know that every fish Dan's ships has been treated for any illnesses Dan has found. It's also been fed enough to put on decent weight before he ships it out. This fish is as healthy as it can possibly be when it gets to me, and if it gets sick after it stands a high chance of pulling through. In this case: aquarium salt + melafix + spirulina flakes = fish ready to move back into main tank on Friday morning. Could I get this fish cheaper? More than likely, but I'm paying for the peace of mind that comes from knowing it's been treated as well as it possibly can before it reached my care. Your odds of a fish recovering from something bad are way better when it's been treated well before and during shipping. That's the Dan's Fish difference. As a bonus, I ordered 6 livebearers and they've already dropped 6 fry. So, I figure I got 'em at half price. You can't beat Dan's.

  • Comment: This is a review ~4 weeks after receiving my order. My initial order was processed promptly and to my surprise was able to ship sooner than I was expecting. My berlin platies arrived in spectacular condition. 0 DOA. I have kept them quarantined and witnessed 0 signs of illness, and after 4 weeks moved them into my main display tank. Very pleased ordering from Dan's fish compared to other online sellers and will be a return customer in the future!

I had watched your video on packaging / shipping and, frankly, the individual, double bagged, heat sealed bags are wonderful. The fish literally flew first class. Your fish are in great flesh and were bigger than I expected. I am a very happy customer and will buy from you again. UPDATE 6!weeks after arrival : THEY ARE SPAWNING!!   • Comment: My issues were out of this company’s control. The small box was delivered roughly; I found it upside down on my doorstep. Inside, the water temperature was below 68 degrees and one of the fish was in clear distress from rough handling: it was wedged into the corner of the bag so tightly that its scales were damaged, a feat that required jostling and jarring far beyond the fish’s own strength. The fishes were robust, though, thanks to the care that the fishmongers provided them while in the team’s care. All the fishes were eating and active later that day, including the injured individual. Several weeks later, the injured fish is hale and hearty, and all the fishes are comfortable in their new homes. I am grateful that the team’s careful medication, feeding, and water quality procedures, had strengthened the fishes to such a point that they could survive rough treatment and cold water. Thank you to the entire fishmonger crew!

The only problem I had is that the package was marked as “perishable “ so at Detroitmailbox they put the fish in the fridge!!! Luckily this order was cold water fish so they were all alive and doing well! Next time I have to make sure I ask to mark the box as live fish!!!

Shipment was delayed by 1 day due to weather but the team kept in constant contact & picked the fish back up from the shipping facility so they did not get cold.   • Comment: The rummynose tetras and yellow platy pair arrived in good condition with no issues. After placing them in my aquarium, all but 1 runnynose were swimming around together exploring. I was concerned at first about the missing rummynose, thinking it must have died or got stuck somewhere. Today I'm happy to report all rummynose tetras are accounted for and are swimming together front and center! Btw this is my first good experience with rummynose tetras. I'll definitely be ordering more in the near future!

The puffer started eating snails that were already in the tank as soon as it got out of its shipping bag. The fish temps averaged between 70-75 depending on where in the box the fish were.   • Comment: This was my first order from Dan’s, and I have had a much better experience than other online orders. The 10 Platinum Rummynose that I ordered were each individually packed, all arrived alive, and the heat pack helped them arrive with a water temp of 74.8° F. (EDIT: I corrected the temp, it was 74.8, not 94.8°, forgive my mistake.) They are already schooling well. I can’t wait to see them all colored up once they settle in.

  • Comment: Ordered a pleco and 2 small angelfish one month ago. The Flash pleco is very healthy, active, and fun to watch. One of the angels had a physical defect, and Dans Fish was quick to respond and rectify the cost. Despite the deformity to its mouth, the little guy is still going! My fish from Dans Fish are the healthiest fish I own. Better results than from my LFS.

  • Comment: Ordered 1 albino platinum Lyretail molly, 6 C. Schultzei Corydoras, and 2 bamboo shrimp. The heat packs were still warm and the fish were cozy and individually packaged. Unfortunately, one of the C. Schultzei arrived with Popeye in both eyes and a torn dorsal fin. It died on day two, despite my best efforts. Dan refunded the cost and shipping of the one fish. I was hoping for maybe a discount code for my troubles and next order but no. I also was NOT impressed with the customer service - particularly Jonny. I enquired about honoring first responders, military, and veterans with a discount code. I was then LIED to that they don't give discounts. Huh? Common knowledge you do offer discounts; aquarium co-op and Fishtory coupon codes ring a bell? When I pressed the importance of recognizing first responders, military and vets, I was given an even shorter and downright RUDE and uninformed response from Jonny. I quote, "Those discounts are through our affiliates, who are providing a service for us. There's no way to verify if someone is military or not online." The first responders, military and veterans didn't provide you with a service? BTW, 1000's of online stores offer military discounts verifiable by https://www.id.me/ After spending $100's of dollars and I was just about to spend $200 more - no way after how rude I was just treated. I was also not impressed with how the email was formatted. I could tell it came from Jonny's phone. There was no salutations, no thank you for your purchase- it was just short, rude, and unprofessional response. Attention: First responders, military and veterans. Dan's Fish does not value you or your service to the country. Don't spend your money here.

  • Comment: I cant say enough great things about Dan's fish! I bought multiple fish multiple times. They have a great mission. All of my fish have arrived healthy and are doing great. Its worth the price to buy his fish as Dan's fish go through a medication and quarantine process. Because of this, I know Dan's fish are MUCH less likely to transmit dangerous diseases to the fish in my current tank.

  • Comment: I wouldn’t order the Longfin tetras. They all arrived alive and well packaged but many of them had their tails torn, apparently they are fin nippers. If that had been listed in the description I wouldn’t have spent so much money on them. I would just stick to regular neon tetras. Update: Customer service responded with a refund and updated the description of the fish. 5/5 for customer service

Foam container is climate controlled using efficient heat packs with firm packaging. Foam container inserted inside a new appropriately sized carboard box.   • Comment: My fish came in looking great! It is doing well as a single Angel in my 46 gallon bow front and has even eaten a tiny bit of Xtreme Krill Flake within 1 hour after temp acclimation. The colors are stunning and I am so glad I was able to get one of these before they sold out!! Tiny rip in caudal fin but I expect that is because this is such a big fish.

That's very helpful as we calibrate heat pack usage in the changing weather. 63 F is a bit colder than we were going for, but those Neocaridina shrimp can live under ice, so I'm sure they will be just fine.   • Comment: I ordered 8 pairs of guppies, 4 different strains. They arrived about 2 weeks ago now. All fish arrived alive and happy! Acclimated well and look AMAZING! I did however have one of the groups (2 pairs blue metal dragon) die off one at a time over the next few days. No idea what happened. Every other fish is doing great and thriving in the same conditions and 2 of the groups dropped fry already.
